A good friend, Billy Couto, taught Barry the basics of the bass guitar when he was about 20.In 1984 Billy, Betsy (his wife) and Barry started a three-piece band called “Bittersweet”. They did this for a couple of years and decided to add a drummer (Bobby Ball) and call themselves “Young Country”. Through the years they added a steel guitar (Harry Teachman) one of the best around. In 1997 Barry decided he wanted to take some time off.
Shortly after He got a call to do a fill in gig with the “ Goatropers” in October of 97,and he’s been filling in ever since. (So much for time off) “ We have had a lot of great times, and they have become a part of my family. I am truly blessed to work with such fine musicians, and to have had the chance make a lot of good friends along the way.”
Along with a lot of local musicians, Barry has had the opportunity to work with a few Nashville acts like, Kitty Wells, Barbara Fairchild, Clay Walker, Tim Rushlow, Charlie Daniels (where he proposed to his wife), Brad Paisley, and Billy Ray Cyrus coming up in September.
“ I would personally like to thank Christine, and my kids, for putting up with me being gone all the time. Thanks to all my band mates Manny, Jimmy, Andy, John, and Danny, you guys are the best. Thanks to all of you that come to see us every weekend, We Love You All.”
